About 300 million Americans in nearly 40 states and the District of Columbia have been requested to "stay at home" in an effort to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, and similar provisions are in place in many countries around the world. By helping to slow down contagion and alleviating the pressure on health systems, social distancing is an essential tool to fight this pandemic. Compliance with these norms is as essential as it is difficult to achieve. Mario Macis, Associate Professor of Economics at the Carey Business School, discusses a new study based on a representative sample of Italians showing that expectations management Is critical to ensure compliance. He is joined by guest David Unger, Adjunct Professor of American Foreign Policy at SAIS Europe currently living in Italy under a stay-at-home order.
