Tensions between the United States and China are on the rise, and it seems the world is entering what some experts have described as a "new type of Cold War." How should Washington respond to the geopolitical challenges posed by Beijing's rising power and influence? In particular, what difference does it make that China's economic, political, and even military footprint is growing along its western Eurasian horizon, through parts of South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East? Daniel Markey, senior research professor at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, will lead a discussion to explore China's new policies, how Eurasian states are responding, why the region matters to the United States, and what Washington should do in response.
