Our Dean's Notebook Series kicks off Hopkins' Sesquicentennial 2025-2026 Academic Year with an engaging live webinar with Dr. William Howell, the Inaugural Dean of the newly-formed School of Government and Policy at Johns Hopkins University.
In this candid conversation about what it takes to build a school designed for public problem-solving, Dean Howell shares the vision for the university’s 10th academic division—anchored at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C.—and how it will connect research to practice, train the next generation of public leaders, and invest in expertise at a time of declining trust in political institutions. Drawing on his scholarship on American political institutions and the U.S. presidency, he explores how universities can earn public confidence, inform democratic governance, and partner with policymakers to deliver results.
This conversation is moderated by Sen. Brian J. Feldman, A&S '00 (MS), who represents District 15, Montgomery County, in the Maryland State Senate.
